Process

This is my first project in 7taps, and I grew to love the program and am excited about its applications. This unit is efficient and is easily accessible on a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

When I got the request for this unit, I set up a meeting with the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to determine goals and key components of the instruction. I conducted a needs analysis and discussed her specific vision so that I could satisfy her wants while keeping the unit grounded in Andragogy and Gagne's 9 Events of Instruction.

After our initial meeting, I created a storyboard to map out my ideas and get her feedback. We collaborated in the document and went through a few iterations before settling on the content and design. To meet the needs of her staff, the client wanted this unit to be short and accessible from a variety of technologies. Because of this, I recommended that 7taps as the platform. She agreed, and I was up and running with the first draft.

7taps was very user-friendly and responsive. I easily added "chapters" for each section of the content, and added in the introduction, summary, and quizzes. Initially, I placed the quizzes all at the end of the unit but after my first run-through, determined that the learner might lost focus by the end and would benefit from engagement throughout. I also added gifs to many of the pages, as the client mentioned that her staff is young and often engages with such content.

I sent the first draft to the client and although she requested some minor edits, she loved the visuals, pacing, and real-world scenarios in the quizzing. She was confident that this unit would support her staff in working with their clients in a positive way. We are already in talks to turn this into a series and create several similar units to address different needs of her staff.

The next challenge was how to get the auto-generator to show a new question when clicked so that participants could click until they see a question they want to answer. This took some research, trial and error, and thinking through the functions of each piece of Storyline.

The end result is a participant-initiated Meeting Protocol guide that will support colleague connections with 60 auto-generated questions that encouraging discussion.

Takeaways

This was an fun unit to create because I was excited to jump into 7taps, and the content was engaging for my client and I. We enjoyed reviewing the storyboard and unit drafts until she was satisfied with the result. The fact that staff will be able to engage in this unit on a phone, tablet, or computer is powerful, and the ability to automatically generate a QR code is a plus.

I truly enjoyed working in 7taps and am eager to begin the next unit with this client.
