Meeting Protocol

Tools Used: Storyline 360

Features used in Storyline: hot spots, triggers, layers, audio effects

Year: 2021

Project Objective: Set expectations and norms for recurring meetings and include an auto-generated teambuilder to connect colleagues.

Process

This project was my introduction to Storyline 360. The need was for an interactive meeting norm document with a built-in icebreaker/teambuilding generator. After lots of research and tutorials, I knew I wanted to learn how to work with layers, hotspots, and triggers for this project. I created a storyboard to map out my initial iteration so that I would be able to visualize where changes might need to be made.

I quickly learned that auto-generating random questions for the connect with colleagues section would be a challenge. In my first iteration, I wanted a random question to show up on the same slide so that it would be a one-page resource. After researching, I came to the conclusion that this piece would need to be on its own slide. I created layers and triggers to include a total of 60 unique questions geared towards connecting colleagues in a positive way. I decided that visually, having the illusion of flashing boxes would be more engaging for participants, so I added a layer with groups of tiles in varying colors and set them to a rotating schedule. This gave the look I was going for, so I set this layer to disappear once the timer went off so that the random question would be revealed.

The next challenge was how to get the auto-generator to show a new question when clicked so that participants could click until they see a question they want to answer. This took some research, trial and error, and thinking through the functions of each piece of Storyline.

The end result is a participant-initiated Meeting Protocol guide that will support colleague connections with 60 auto-generated questions that encouraging discussion.

Takeaways

This may have been an ambitious first project for Storyline 360, but I wanted to be sure I was going to hit on many exciting features of the program. I am catching onto Storyline quickly, which makes me excited to try out additional features to make my projects more engaging. I can envision where eLearning units can go in Storyline, especially modules that are more cause/effect driven and are meant to engage one participant in learning a specific standard. I would change a few minimal aspects such as color scheme, and I would like the home button on the connect with colleagues activity to take participants back to the previous view of the sticky notes, but overall I am proud of this first dive into Storyline 360.
