10 Strategies for Informed Stocking & Merchandising
Tools Used: Rise 360
Features used in Rise 360: Scenario, sorting, interactive graphics, voice recording
Year: 2021
Project Objective: Retail store owners will learn 10 strategies in stocking and merchandising to maximize profts and minimize losses.
Process
When I approached my first unit in Rise 360, I wanted to design something that would be applicable to various business owners and would allow me to utilize many of the features in Rise 360. I settled on stocking and merchandising strategies because this is a topic that all stores focus on and can greatly impact their profits. Although I would tailor it for a specific client, it was made with a store owner in mind who has declining profits and an unorganized stocking/merchandising strategy.
I started by consulting with several SMEs so that I had the background needed, and I got to work on the storyboard. I mapped it out so that I was presenting the information in small, digestible, and interactive sections with an encompassing, scenario-based knowledge check at the end.
Moving from the storyboard to Rise 360 was seamless, and the program is very intuitive. I started by adding the base information and then went back to add the interactive pieces. I wanted to add interactions throughout the unit to keep learners engaged and involved. The final scenario-based knowledge check was designed to encompass the key takeaways from this unit and to give learners a more realistic way to apply their learning.
It all came together in Review 360, and although the unit itself is longer than I anticipated, it's full of helpful information for retail businesses and includes lots of interactions in a learner-centered environment.
Takeaways
My experience with Rise 360 was extremely positive, and I can already envision how usefull it will be for other elearning units. It's user-friendly for the content developer and the student alike. Moving forward with this specific unit, I would tailor it to a specific business before publishing. For example, if a client who owns a grocery store wanted a training to address a need, I would meet with the store owners to conduct a needs analysis so that I am focusing on their specific gaps. I would go back and change each detail to align with grocery stores by removing references to clothing, home goods, and other products that grocers don't carry. In addition, I'd swap out the photos so that they are exlusively grocers and align the training with the time of the year that it would be used, as this specific session references the winter months.
